Leadership Associates is proud to present its
"Leadership Series." This series explores the competencies of leadership through
studying great historical leaders in analogous situations. In other words, "learning
from the past for the future." This approach is rich with opportunities for insight
and real life leadership examples. Each case study involves a historical leader who
demonstrates a set of leadership competencies that he/she used to achieve superior
performance. Where the leader missed improving performance by not applying or misapplying
a competency is also explored. The leader's actions serve as benchmarks for program
participants to determine how they might respond in similar situations. These case studies
explore the leaders' lives, the circumstances and events influencing the leaders'
decisions as well as the impact of their decisions.
The case studies actively involve the program
participants in exploring the case materials and determining the reasons for the leader's
success or failure. Whenever possible, the program is held in the site which represents a
"high water mark" for the leader and his/her organization. This is where the
leader's application of the leadership competencies determined the organization's
performance, e.g., Gettysburg for Abraham Lincoln. The historical leader comes alive
through the participant's research and evaluation of the case study materials and from
experiencing the site where it all happened.
This case study approach was designed with the
executive and the high potential middle manager in mind. In these two-day case study
programs, these leaders come away with a set of reference points and specific behaviors
for the situations they confront every day. In addition, they have the opportunity to
discuss common concerns and solutions with their fellow leaders.
Many previous participants have found the programs
so impactful, they wanted their managers to share the same experience. Leadership
Associates has devised a series of cost effective alternative case study programs for
managers which can be presented at the company site. These programs also engender a high
degree of follow-up via consultations. Leaders come away from these programs energized and
determined to structure their functions for a larger contribution to the total
organization.
As testament to these programs' impact and
applicability to the leadership experience, these programs have never received a negative
evaluation. Comments of " This is the best program I have ever attended!" or
" The historical approach is a most thought provoking and unique way to present the
material." are common.
Learning from the past for the future is a powerful
concept whose time has come!
